Things to do in WindsorWindsor is a beautiful town next to the River Thames, about 20 minutes car drive from Heathrow airport. In honour of this historic town, we have put together some information which will help you get the best from the area. TheatreThe Theatre Royal is located on Windsor High street opposite the Castle. Dating back to the 18th Century it boasts a wide repertoire of shows to suit all tastes. Weatherhttp://uk.weather.com/weather/local/UKXX0158?x=20&post=post&code=code&y=11 Thames Boat ToursWindsor’s location next to the River Thames makes a boat trip an ideal way to see the town and beautiful countryside. French Brothers operates two boat trips along the Thames departing from the Jetty opposite Browns Bar and Restaurant. Please note these are only in operation from Easter to October Daily. Trip 1 (35mins) The trip takes approximately 35 minutes, leaving every half hour from 11am to 5pm. Trip 2 (2hrs) Horse-Drawn Carriage ToursWhat better way to see the historic town of Windsor than an elegant horse-drawn carriage! Orchard Poyle offer horse-drawn tours of the town everyday of the year (dependant on the weather) from 12.30pm. You will find them opposite the Queen Victoria Statue on the High Street. If they are not there, be patient they will be out with customers (or on their lunch) but will usually be back within 30 minutes. You can enjoy a guided tour around the local Windsor countryside, including the Long Walk from a Victorian licensed hackney carriage pulled by two bay horses. Savill GardenHistory Sir Eric Savill built Savill Garden in 1932 under the guidance of King George V and Queen Mary. In 1951 King George VI commanded its name be changed from the "Bog Garden" to the more pleasant sounding "Savill Garden" and in 1955 Eric Savill became Sir Eric Savill. From the initial streamside plantings below the Temperate House, the area has been extended to become one of the finest woodland gardens in the world. With the seasonal variations shown in such clear beauty, it is worth making a visit to the Gardens throughout the year.
